About

Hi there! I'm Hye-Min, a Korean-American ceramic artist and teacher in the SF Bay Area.

After quitting my corporate job, getting married, and moving out to the Midwest early on in the pandemic so my husband could start med school, I took my first wheelthrowing class and immediately fell in love with it. I immediately joined a local studio, and after a few months of devoted practice and a handful of unsolicited Instagram commissions, I decided to start my own ceramics business.

I enjoy experimenting with different techniques to craft simple, elegant, and modern designs inspired by my Korean heritage. I seek to honor how we are sustained by our everyday rituals, from drinking coffee to sharing meals with loved ones. You can witness my ceramics livin' their best lives at Ishi (sushi omakase by reservation only in Champaign, IL), Ladro Enoteca (wine bar in Downtown Champaign, IL), and Nanoom Dining (private, Corean fine dining experience in Los Angeles, CA). Some of my pieces are also now available for purchase at SŌHN/MAUM SF and Lulu Fresh Cafe, several new Korean and Asian-American-inspired cafes in San Francisco.

Check out my Smile Politely interview to learn more about my creative process and follow me on Instagram (@ohmkdesign / @ohmkims) for more updates. I am currently on 🤰🏻break from teaching classes at South Bay Ceramics, but please feel free to contact me directly for any future commissions or inquiries.

Thank you for your support! I hope my ceramics bring you as much joy as they did for me during their creation process ✌🏼
